As the decades roll on and societal norms change, what used to be considered normal can become downright creepy. Posing for a picture in the 20’s or 30’s with your friends, who happen to be wearing black face, might have seemed like good fun at the time but is now not only offensive, but also extremely weird. These photos literally illustrate how styles, morals and normal behavior have changed over the past hundred or more years.

 

Do you notice the prevalence of racism in many of the photos? The six women posing in bathing suits and what appear to be KKK head gear is striking in not only how racist it is but strange. Even if these women were part of the KKK why would they choose to wear the masks while wearing swimming outfits? The photo of the men’s basketball team with swastikas on their t-shirts is really strange considering that the players look to be of Indian or Hispanic descent.

 

Some of the photos seem to fall directly under the strange category, regardless of what era they were taken in. For instance, what is up with the Koo Koo the bird girl photo of the bigheaded bald man with glasses dressed like some odd bird?

 

If they were trying to play him off as a female, then someone should have asked for their money back. Others seem to be photos of alternative lifestyles or occupations, such as circus workers and entertainers. I particularly like the bearded lady and people with really small heads. Just imagine that someone out there is related to some of the people in these photos.
