Disturbing head transplant movie
Can you fathom an entire head being transplanted from one human body to another? Apparently the idea of transplanting a brain also requires bringing along the entire head. However, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to have a new head placed on their body, or how that would ever possibly work. Humans are a little sensitive to what they look like, and besides who wouldn’t be completely freaked out by looking in the mirror and seeing a different face than they have seen their entire life? Despite these factors the surgeon Robert J. White completed a successful head transplant of a monkey in the late 70’s. This documentary trailer shows video clips from the actual surgery and interviews with the doctor. The poor monkey survived but looks completely dazed and utterly confused.
As if the monkey head transplant wasn’t disturbing enough, White was invited to visit Russia to see what the Russians had managed to do with animal head transplants. He was shown the famous two-headed dog, which the documentary unfortunately shows clips of. Be warned that if you are an animal lover you might get a bit freaked out. It is unfortunate that doctors have to practice these types of operations on helpless animals. However, I doubt a human could be found who would be willing to participate in having his or her head cut off to be placed on another body. Anyone up for the experiment?
